Waterbirds at Jungle dam

2 December 2015

www.leopard.tvwww.leopard.tvAn African darter Anhinga rufais sitting on a rock next to Jungle dam in the early morning with its webbed feet which allows it to swim so well showing clearly. A red-chested cuckoo is calling in the background.

The feathers on its back is groomed very easily by truning its long neck around. Then it defecates in a white jet.

www.leopard.tvLater it is sitting on dead branches in the middle of Jungle dam with its wings spread out, in what is typical behaviour, to dry its wings. Behind the African darter is a black duck Anas sparsa on a floating island nest while an African jacana Actophilornis africanus is walking on floating plants further back. Because it is late in the morning, the flowers of the water lilies on the water surface are open to allow them to make maximum use of the sunlight. They are closed at night to preserve energy.
