Leopards and water

9 January 2014

QUESTION:

How much water does a leopard need?

ANSWER:

Leopards are usually independent of free water but will drink water regularly when they can. At other times, a leopard utilises metabolic water and the moisture in the muscle tissue of its prey to satisfy its water requirements.

Metabolic water is a by-product of respiration and is formed by oxidation during the digestion of food.
